Navasan is a neo-classical and improvisational duo bringing together the piano of Benjamin Coum and the kamanche of Soroush Kamalian. Their music weaves contemporary harmony with Persian modal traditions to create intimate, cinematic soundscapes, somewhere between composed writing and spontaneous dialogue.
Navasan was born from the meeting of two strong musical identities: the European jazz/neo-classical language of the piano and the melodic, microtonal world of the Iranian kamanche. The duo explores space and silence, allowing each note to breathe and gradually building powerful emotional arcs.
Improvisation lies at the heart of their approach. Each concert is a unique journey where motifs emerge, transform, and return like memories; the piano shapes harmonic landscapes and rhythmic pulses, while the kamanche პასუხ responds with lyrical lines, subtle ornamentation, and colors drawn from Persian modes, freed from strict stylistic boundaries.
